Why do so many people find it difficult to improve their health and end up resorting to dangerous fad diets or weight loss pills? The truth is, weight loss is hard, and you’re going to need to get used to being UNCOMFORTABLE. You’ll feel hunger, cravings, and at times want to skip your workouts. But that’s what you go through to get results.

Habits are hard to break; a change in mindset is essential to learn  and create new behavior. The key to success, is to start with small steps and don’t expect results overnight.  You can start by  simply swapping just one bad habit for a new behavior that can help you work towards your goals. Before you know it, you’ll be on your way to creating new habits that will improve your health and quality of life.

These easy tips can help you transition to a healthier lifestyle:

  1.  Try adding instead of subtracting–  Rather than making drastic changes to your diet, continue your normal eating patterns but add one serving of fruits and vegetables to one of your meals each day.
  2. Increase your activity level each day- Instead of starting an intermediate or advanced workout program with equipment, simply begin to increase your activity by walking each day. Start with a goal of 10 to 15 minutes. Eventually, you may want to invest in an  Activity Tracker to help you set goals and to help motivate you to move more each day.  Additionally, consider checking out some YouTube videos for beginner fitness workouts. Perhaps you want to get stronger or increase your flexibility. YouTube has many free workouts for almost any activity you’re interested in such as walking, weight training, and yoga.
  3.  Understand that diet pills, fad diets, or the newest workout craze doesn’t work.  Even with the slim chance that you may lose a few pounds, you risk the likelihood of dangerous side effects or injuries from inappropriate exercise programs. Furthermore, unless you make lifestyle changes, you will likely gain the weight back.  Consider starting a journal to keep track of your progress each week. Make note of your success each week. This will help motivate you to continue to work towards your goals.
  4. Experiment to find healthy food options and activities you enjoy.   Better eating habits are essential for weight loss and better health. Consider buying a new cookbook to help you experiment with healthier meals that you can begin to add to your weekly meal plan.  Write down ideas for new healthy recipes and workouts you want to try in the future.
